Silverstone British Nationals

27th September 2019

Awesome weekend with the Kevin Mills Racing team! Pole Position and another National Series Win at Silverstone!

We went really well in testing, it was just a case of getting a clean run in qualifying. I went P1 early on, but was later demoted to 2nd, after another competitor beat my time by 0.001 of a second. I managed to get one final good lap in which would put me on pole by 0.08 of a second. This would be the last lap we would run in the session as another car blew up and spilled oil all over the racing line.

Race 1 - Initially, not the best start off the line, I got passed into turn 1, but managed to regain the position later in the lap. I drove a great race and managed to lead every lap to the chequered flag, where I took my second national victory. My teammate came in just 0.066 of a second behind me to make it a 1-2 for the Kevin Mills Racing team, which made it all the more sweeter.

Race 2 - So much happened durning the course of the 15+ minutes. The top ten was nose to tail and my position varied from first back to sixth. A really epic race, formula ford at its best. I began the final lap in fifth, but made a great move in the last couple of corners to shoot into third and onto the podium. The top ten cars ended up less than 2.5 seconds between one another at the finish line, once again showing just how close the formula is.

Race 3 - This was the reverse grid race, which meant we would start in 5th. A few laps in and I found myself in 4th, just before the safety car was deployed. Sadly on the restart, the gap between 2nd and 3rd was a second as we began racing again. I worked with the car in front to try and catch the leaders, but they were working together too. The championship leader was in 2nd and was understandably happy to finish there as it would secure him the title, so the rest of the race was stagnant. I tried to make a move for 3rd on the last couple of laps but couldn’t make it work.

Overall, another really enjoyable weekend, with some great racing!

A huge thank you to the whole Kevin Mills Racing team for a great car, and to Bold Engineering for a speedy motor!

Massive thank you to my Mum, Dad, Keelyn, Jackie and Chris, who came and supported me during the weekend.

Thank you Rachel Bourne Photo for the pics!

I’m off to Brands Hatch this evening for the last round of the British Nationals. Hopefully another good weekend!
